Median of Ungrouped Data

Concept Explanation

Median of Ungrouped Data

Median:

Median refers to the value which lies in the middle of the data when arranged in an increasing or decreasing order with half of the observations above it and the other half below it. Thus, in a given data, arranged in ascending or descending order, the median gives us the middle observation.

Illustration: The median of 4,1,7 is 4. Because when  the numbers are put in order(1,4,7),the number 4 is in the middle.

Median of Ungrouped Data:

The median refers to the middle data point of an ordered data set at the 50% percentile. If a data set has an odd number of observations, then the median is the middle value. If it has an even number of observations, the median is the average of the two middle values. Let there be n terms in a given set of variables and these terms are expressed in ascending or descending order.
